So, you want to have a food truck at your wedding?

As wedding season comes into full blossom, you may be wondering what new trends are popping up. A modern-day twist on catering is to use food trucks…but what all is involved in choosing this option? Here are some common questions and solutions from our brides who have used food trucks in the past.

Here are a few tips and things to consider if you are considering having a food truck at your wedding.

1. On your big day, consider offering preselected items that are easily made in the food truck to be served buffet style at the wedding. With help from your wedding planner and serving staff, your guests can be in and out of the line quickly with plenty of time to spare for the dancing!

2. Remember to get written approval from your venue to have a food truck serve on-site or allow outside catering. Once you have the approval, discuss with your venue and the catering company where an ideal location to set up a buffet/park the truck would be.

3. Talk with your planner about releasing tables one by one so that there is not a long line.

4. Consider your budget — just because it is a food truck, it may not always be the cheaper option. You and your planner should pay close attention to detail in order to determine if the food truck is a better choice for your special day. Food trucks will often have a minimum for them to travel onsite, so be sure and check that too! (We can help here!)

5. Most catering companies provide the option to bring plates, cups, and utensils. However, food trucks typically just provide their food and the truck. Ask the company with the food truck if they have an option to provide dishware and, if not, determine beforehand if you will rent or buy those for the wedding.

Lastly, food trucks are a fun and modern twist on traditional catering…and there are so many options out there! So have fun exploring what is all available and ask your planner for any suggestions to find the perfect fit for your big day! Here are a few more ideas that we found.
