Tips for a GREAT Wedding Toast

Wedding Toasts are so fun but also a little nerve-wracking! You want to be prepared, a little humorous, and make it memorable all at once. See below for our tips to give a GREAT Wedding Toast.

Pre Toast: Make sure you get with your DJ and Photographer and confirm the order of who is speaking and where they will stand. We often suggest the DJ/Band making an announcement 10 to 15 mins prior letting guests know to either grab a glass of champagne or refill whatever their drink of choice is. If you don’t want to worry about the above, see our services here. You won’t see official ‘toast master’ but have you fear we will keep your drink full and ready!

Step One: Introduce yourself and congratulate the couple. Let them know you are honored to be a part and get to witness such a big day.

Step Two: Tell the guests how to know the couple. Meet the Bride in second grade on the school bus great! Played Football with the Groom through out College, great! Giving the background of how you know them makes it more personal.

Step Three: Tell a story, something fun and personal. Maybe the first time you meet them or how happy they make your friend etc.

Step Four: Make sure to address them both, it takes two to make a marriage work. What do you like about each one of them. Bring it all together about how you are gaining another friend, sibling, etc.

Step Five: Offer Marriage Advice, if you have it. If not maybe a quote, something your Grandmother told you, something to inspire them!

Step Six: Raise your glass! Literally! Don’t just stop talking, the whole purpose of the toasts is to drink on behalf of the couple. ‘Lets raise our glasses,’ ‘Cheers to the Newlyweds,’ ‘Lets get this dance party started’ Be creative here!

A few other tips (we are speaking from experience here as we have seen A LOT of toasts)

  1. Write it down and practice
  2. Hold the Microphone close to your mouth and speak into it!
  3. Don’t Drink and Speak, wait until after you giving a public toast please!

Some of our Favorite Toast Memories:

Once a Best Man placed a sealed envelope on each table before the toasts, during this speech he asked each table to open up the envelope and pass around the photos. They were numbered #1 to #7 and he went into detail describing the characteritcis  of the groom by each photo.

The sister of the bride once ended her toast by inviting the bride to dance to ‘their song’ and invited everyone else up as well.

One of our couples loved Board Games so the toasters added in 20 board game names into the toast, it was a sure winner. Yahtzee!
