Tips for How do Wedding Dress Alterations Work!

  1. Bring your wedding shoes to your appointment.

How do Wedding Dress Alterations work? When your tailor adjusts the hem, make sure to wear the shoes you’ll wear at the wedding so you’ll be the same height you will be on the big day. If you haven’t picked out your wedding shoes yet, bring a pair with a height comparable to the shoes you imagine yourself wearing. Planning to switch shoes? No worries bring them both so the seamstress is aware.

2. Wear appropriate undergarments.

We all know the difference Spanx or the right strapless bra can make. You want to wear exactly what you’ll be wearing on your wedding day, including shape-wear, for the best possible tailoring. Buy them before your first fitting and wear them to each fitting.

3. Ask for referrals

Many of our couples are often asking us, where is the best place to take their wedding dress? We often suggest asking the store or dress shop in which you purchased it. They likely have relationships with seamstresses and can help. Need additional recommendations: Check out these local to DFW:

4. Ask/know how too or take a video of bustle

Bustle: A bustle refers to the process of transitioning a wedding gown to function as if it has no train. AKA: The train gets pined up so you can dance the night away!

In addition to perfecting the fit of your dress, a seamstress will also tailor it to have a bustle by adding buttons, hooks, or ribbons to make it easier for you to walk post-ceremony. There are many different wedding dress bustle types to choose from, so it’s best to ask your seamstress which works best for your style of dress.

You will need a Maid of Honor, Mom, Planner or maybe all three to help and we always suggest getting a video to reference back too. We have seen one button to 12 buttons to over 20 ribbons so knowing the appropriate  steps is a must!
